Chocolate Nirvana!

Here is a picture of my granddaughter with the whisk and bowl of chocolate when her Mom made a flourless chocolate cake. Pure heaven for her! Who doesn’t love chocolate?

Just looked at my blog entry from last week and realized that it was warm and wonderful here. It is 19 degrees today and we are iced over. They predicted a much worse storm so we are very lucky – getting to 42 today and will be in the 60’s in a couple of days. But my DH and I have not ventured out! Didn’t even get the newspaper yet.

Gardening in Texas

never ends. It is warm today and spring is on the way for sure. I have daffodils ready to bloom and all the trees are beginning to bud. Really gives you Spring Fever. But a cold front is on the way – high in the  forties tomorrow and windy. So I will be back inside looking at seed catalogues like everyone else.

Here is a picture of my leatherleaf mahonia in bloom. One of the things I like about this plant is that it has interest all year long. These lovely yellow flowers will turn into purple berries in a few weeks. And it is evergreen and drought tolerant! Good for Texas.img_0003

Also wanted  to show you a picture of my new yard art in its rightful place in my garden. This is the piece crafted by my good friend Lottie  - received it for a gift at our annual garden club gift exchange. It is placed so that every time I do dishes or prep veggies, etc. I get to see it and it always makes me smile!img_0002

Happy Inauguration Day!!

Went to the doctor first thing this morning and found that my recovery is right on track. Then came on home and have been watching the inauguration ever since. What a great day for our nation and the world! DH and are very happy Obama is now in charge.

Actually got this posted a day late but still with lots of enthusiasm. While watching the inauguration I sorted through lot of my craft supplies – seeing what I want to finish or forget about. Now I  have a big mess to put away. Am  halfway finished with my scarf  - the malabrigo yarn leftover from my sweater. And I am trying to resurrect a project that started out as a curtain for my bathroom – never quiet worked for me – so now I am going to make it into a scarf. May be something I donate to someone. I am grateful that my elbow and left hand no longer hurt when I knit – last Fall I was seriously thinking I was going to have to give it up!

Pictures to follow!

Recovering!

Am feeling better everyday – healing of all kinds takes time. It is cold here – not nearly as cold as our relatives and friends in the northern half of the Ubut cold just the same. So I decided to bake some bread – nothing better than the smell of bread baking and getting to eat it after it has cooled slightly.

Here is a picture of the finished product – wish you could smell it!

And here is Darwin – simply torture for him to be smelling this all day long. He did get to sample a little piece.

Sinus Surgery

Yesterday I did something I have needed to do for quite a while – had sinus surgery. During the past summer I needed to take antibiotics for sinus infections four  times. In November I went to a doctor who specialized in sinus surgery and bit the bullet yesterday. Am glad it is over – a little more involved than I thought but I put all activities on hold for a while and will rest. Good time of year to get it done – not a lot going on. Am hoping I will be able to spend time outside this year and not get sick. He told me there would not be any packing or bruising – but I do have bruises and my nose is swollen – so NO pictures on this blog entry!

In my knitting life I finally finished a baby sweater for my niece Kerry – didn’t get a picture before I mailed if off. Her baby shower is this week. Don’t think a sweater is the most practical gift but it is nice to have with the baby memories. I passed some on to my grandchildren that my MIL made – still have a couple.

Am also knitting a scarf from Malabrigo yarn – same yarn that I used to make my circumnavigate sweater – it is wonderfully soft! Maybe now that I am required to recuperate I will get it done before our hot weather returns! And I am going to try my  hand again with wet felting – want to do some nuno felting with silk chiffon and merino wool. Will keep you posted.

Post Christmas Garden Party

For the past several years our garden club postponed our annual gift exchange to January. We have had a blast doing it this way. No pre-Christmas pressure – we  are much more relaxed and ready to have fun! And we always do. We all bring a gardening gift of some type and then do a Chinese gift exchange. Some years “stealing” the gifts can get pretty intense – this year was relatively mild. I received a fabulous garden sculpture from Lottie, our hostess for this year and last. Check out her blog  - eastdallasartgardens.blogspot.com for more pictures! And her blog is always fun to read.

And here is the gang – members of the Forest Hills Garden Club. We usually meet from 7 – 9 pm. Well, this group partied on until 10 pm. Thanks to Lottie’s husband  for taking the picture.

Trip to the Dallas World Aquarium

On Sunday I took my grandson to the Dallas World Aquarium – we had lots of fun! It is one of those places I have intended to go for a long time but you know how that is. It is a great place to see sharks, crocodiles, bugs, snakes, flamingos, etc. – all things an almost 5 year  old would love. We spent 3 hours there and never got bored – only hungry. alex and flamingos

Here a a couple of pictures of him intensely interested in the flamingos and the shark exhibit.

Weather here in Dallas continues to be crazy – on Saturday it was 80 degrees and here is my grandson practicing his newfound skill of tree climbing!

Just realized I have spent two hours here at the computer surfing, writing etc. Have a ton of things I promised myself I would do this morning so more posting later!

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Can’t believe how fast 2008 went by. We spent a a quiet New Years and I actually got started on tax organization for 2008 today. I really don’t like office work so when the mood strikes me I have to act on it!

I borrowed a couple of cute pictures from my daughter’s website – cheeseslave.com. She is in Seattle visiting with my other daughter. So here are Stella, Sophie and Kate at a hamburger joint in Seattle!

My DH’s daughter lives on the other side of the country and turned 40 today. She threw herself a great birthday party and here is a picture of the cake she made for her party. Isn’t it fabulous?

I am not sure why the cake picture showed up twice – still learning about uploading etc.
